Creating a DVD Menu Instructions

Today you are going to learn how to make you own DVD menu for either your home or business. It is not hard to do as long as you fallow these steps you will do fine listed below are some of the items you will need.Software NeededAdobe PhotoshopAdobe EncoreComputer

Getting Started In Photoshop
1. First pick a background picture that you would like to use whether it is a digital picture or one that is created using another type of software. (Make sure that the picture is at least 720px by 480px or larger)
2. Open up Adobe Photoshop
3. Go to file open locate the image that will be used for the DVD Menu background.
4. Go to image, canvas size and set the dimensions to 720px by 480px.
5. Now with the image that you have picked you can alter it how you want it (once you get the picture how you want leave it alone)
6. Now type out the names of what will later turn out to be the buttons like play,chapter list,special features,etc. (You can use any size text or any font you want).
Your document should be similar to the image below.
7. Next you should put each of the text layers in a separate folder.
8. Go to the bottom of the layers palette and click on the folder icon to create a new folder.
9. Label the folder exactly like this (+) Play make sure you put (+) because when imported into encore that will tell the program that it is the button.
Your layer palette should look like this with all the text layers should be in their own folder labeled with (+) before the name of the text layer.

10. If you want to add a rollover effects use the shape tool or import an image to be used as your rollover effect. (A rollover effect is when a DVD is at the menu it either highlights the word or an object appears to let you know that if you press enter that is where the DVD is going to go next.)
11. In order to do this you have to do it for each set of folders that are in your layer palette.
12. First for example using the folder set labeled (+) Play create an object and put it right before play.
13. Go to layer in the top menu bar
14. Select Rasterize
15. Rasterize shape
16. Drag that layer into the folder set.
17. Label that layer with the following (=1) object.
18. Do this for the other folder sets.
19. With each of the Objects go to the layers palette and click on the lock icon to lock the objects

20. Then go to the icons on the side that look like an eye and click on each eye next to the each of the object layers to hide the objects (This is very important because if you do not do step 18 or 19 the rollover effects will not work).
21. Now after creating your menu in Photoshop go to file save as and label your document, menu and close Photoshop.
Getting Started in Adobe Encore
1. Open Adobe Encore
2. Start a new project
3. Name your project
4. Select destination of where you want it to be saved at.
5. In project settings, authoring mode is set at default which is DVD and standard DVD size is NTSC.
6. Press OK.
7. Go to file, import, import as menu.
8. Find the Photoshop document that was just created and then click on the file to import it.
Your screen should look as follows. (If any of the palettes are closed you can find them in the windows menu at the top of the screen.)

9. To make sure your rollovers work go to file, preview or atl + ctrl + space to view a preview of the project.
Your preview should look similar to this example.

10. With this preview you are done creating a menu for a DVD you can create different kinds of menus based on these instructions trying out different kinds of effects, colors, fonts, etc
